The Pvt. Charles T. Berryman who served in Co. H of the 38th Georgia Regiment was born in 1846 in Madison Co., GA. He was the son of Wilson P. Berryman and Nancy Smith. He is shown in the household of Wilson Berryman in the 1850 and 1860 census of Madison Co.

After the war, he moved to Arkansas where he married Susan Caledonia Thorn, the daughter of Jesse Thorn and Frances Miller. In the 1870 census, Charles and Susan were living next door to her parents in Maumelle, Craighead, Arkansas. They had one daughter, Charlie Ann, who married James Thomas Tiner in 1886.

Charles died ca. 1870-73 and Susan married Pleasant Coleman around 1873-1874. They are in the 1880 census of Maumelle, Craighead, Arkansas.

Confederate service record states he was 17 years old at the time of release from Lincoln U.S.A. Hospital, in June, 1865.
