Thornton, James William - Pvt. 3/18/1864. Captured at Winchester, Va. 9/19/1864. Exchanged at Point Lookout, Md. 11/1/1864. Received at Venus Point, Savannah River, Ga., 11/15/1864. Pension records show he enlisted in Reserve Cavalry in 1865, and was disbanded at Macon, Ga. 4/23/1865. Resident of Ga. since 1845.)

Born in Elbert Co. on 1/4/1846, d. 12/30/1934. Filed a CSA pension in 1919 in Elbert Co. Buried at Thornton Family Cemetery, Elbert Co.
